About Me

I love having a unique name even though I have to spell it every time I say it. It’s automatic now, Wren, W-R-E-N, like the bird, yes the Arizona State Bird, a cactus Wren.

The story behind my name is that my Dad wanted to name me Wren and my Mom thought he was saying Karen.  She put Karen on my birth certificate.  A few weeks later at a party my parents were having, my Dad’s friends were all calling me baby Wren.  My Mom’s people were calling me Karen.   Finally, someone said, what is this baby’s name.  The miscommunication was sorted out and I’ve been Wren ever since.  My parents officially changed my birth certificate.  Wren is the only name I’ve ever known.

I lived in Minneapolis until about age thirteen, when my Dad bought land in Kerrick, Minnesota.  We had a hobby farm and I absolutely loved it.  My Dad was still working in the city, two hours away, so the animals were my responsibility during the week.  Cows, horses, goats, pigs (lots of pigs), chickens and ducks.  I would get up early and feed all the critters before jumping on the school bus for a one hour ride into the high school.

After high school, I moved back to Minneapolis to attend University with a major in Journalism.  I attended college for three years, straight though the summer, and worked a full time job as well.   When I was almost finished with my degree, I took a class in horseback riding.  There I discovered an equine studies program.  I dropped out of college to attend horse school.

Equine studies led to twenty-five plus years spent with horses.  I’ve raised and trained them, started many under saddle, ridden classical dressage,  jumped a little, been a jockey, handled morning exercise and taught many riding lessons.  I was fascinated with horses.  Until suddenly one day I found myself all alone, living in the middle of nowhere.  My husband of twenty-two years had passed away.  My daughter was off to college.  I realized I was ready to move on from the horse lifestyle.

Now, I enjoy a more balanced lifestyle with travel, nature, hiking, kayaking.  My new passion is dog sports and I compete with my dogs in scent work, agility and fly ball.  I have always loved books and enjoy  nothing more than curling up with my dogs at the end of a long, happy day, reading a great book.
